“The Eternaut” is an upcoming Argentine television series set to premiere on Netflix on April 30, 2025.Based on the iconic 1957 graphic novel “El Eternauta” by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, the series is directed by Bruno Stagnaro and stars Ricardo Darín as the protagonist, Juan Salvo.

The story begins on a summer night in Buenos Aires when a mysterious and lethal snowfall suddenly blankets the city, exterminating anyone it touches. Juan Salvo, along with his family and friends, survives this initial catastrophe by sealing themselves indoors. As they venture out, they discover that the deadly snow is merely the first wave of a larger alien invasion orchestrated by an unseen force. Facing escalating threats, including alien-controlled entities and monstrous creatures, the group must unite and fight for survival in a world where isolation equates to death.
The series delves into themes of survival, resistance, and the resilience of the human spirit amidst existential threats. It also serves as a metaphor for political and social oppression, reflecting the fears and turmoil experienced in Argentina during the mid-20th century.
Filmed in Buenos Aires from May to December 2023, the production utilized over 35 real locations and more than 25 stages created with virtual production technology. The first season comprises six episodes and is a collaboration between Netflix and K&S Films.
“The Eternaut” promises to bring a seminal piece of Argentine science fiction to a global audience, blending apocalyptic tension with rich socio-political commentary.
