Hotel Transylvania (2012) is an animated comedy film produced by Sony Pictures Animation. It follows the story of Count Dracula, who runs a luxurious, monster-only hotel hidden from the human world. The hotel serves as a safe haven where monsters can relax without the fear of being hunted by humans.
Dracula, voiced by Adam Sandler, is an overprotective father to his teenage daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez). After losing his wife to an angry human mob, Dracula becomes paranoid about the human world and builds Hotel Transylvania as a sanctuary for monsters, ensuring Mavis remains safe from humans.
On Mavisโs 118th birthday, Dracula invites all his monster friendsโincluding Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Mummy, and the Werewolf familyโto celebrate. However, an unexpected visitor arrives: Jonathan (Andy Samberg), a free-spirited human backpacker who accidentally stumbles upon the hotel.
Panicked that the presence of a human will terrify his guests, Dracula disguises Jonathan as a monster and tries to hide his true identity. But things get complicated when Mavis and Jonathan start to develop feelings for each other. Despite Dracula’s attempts to sabotage their budding romance, Mavis experiences “zing” (a monster term for true love) with Jonathan.
As the truth about Jonathanโs humanity eventually comes out, the monsters surprisingly accept him. However, feeling unwelcome, Jonathan leaves. Realizing his mistake and wanting his daughter to be happy, Dracula overcomes his fear of humans, ventures into the human world, and chases after Jonathan. With the help of his monster friends, he apologizes and gives his blessing for Mavis and Jonathan to be together.
